Packing Tips for a Stress-free Move
We know packing for your big move can be a daunting task. Like many things, if you just get stuck in and do it, it won’t be as bad as you think.
However, there are some things you should keep in mind to make sure your belongings make it to your new home unscathed.
Flat Screen TV
Flat-screen TV’s are quite fragile and should be packed into a box for removal. The screens can be damaged if they are placed into the truck when not in a box. You can either pack these in the box they came in, or in a specialised TV removal box.
Stands should be removed before packing as they have been known to snap off while in transit.
Flat Pack Furniture
If a piece of furniture was assembled in your home, for example a flat pack desk from IKEA, you should dismantle and box it for removal. Flat pack furniture is not designed to be moved after it is assembled.
BBQ’s should be disassembled as much as possible. This includes removing the sides (trays) of BBQs.
Smaller Items and Boxes
As a rule of thumb, if it can fit into a box, put it in a box!
The safest way to move your items is when they are in a correctly packed removal box. This includes electronics, appliances and other household objects.
Plastic tubs are not recommended to be used as moving boxes as they are brittle and not built to be moved. They can crack and break quite easily, especially the lids, which can cause your items to fall out during transit. If you have plastic tubs you wish to use for your move, we recommend only packing very light things into them such as towels or linen.
We strongly recommend against the use of garbage bags and similar packing methods.
Labels
It’s a great idea to label everything. Labels should include your name, what room or part of the house it belongs in and the contents of boxes.
If something is fragile, make sure that it is labelled as such.
